I was thinking of an allegory to describe who we might be like when we have encountered God's mercy and love and have gone off on a detour in the journey of life . I thought of a beloved pet dog, who is hovering at your heels and close to you when you are walking him and then suddenly he's off trusting his own instinct, leaving you standing there.

Can we too, inadvertently slip away from the relationship we have with our Saviour Jesus Christ? We may not notice that our reliance on Him may have slowly waned. We don't 'rely on praying to Him for wisdom before we make key decisions. Our daily walk with our Lord doesn't seem to excite us.

The only option we have is to listen to those small reminders, the intonations of His voice that gently nudges us or sometimes pushes us towards trusting Him again.

God is always on the alert, constantly on the lookout for people who are totally committed to him. 2 Chronicles 16:9a MSG
